Parachute a local into Westminster who will make the voices of North Devon heard
VOTE STEVE COTTEN
(Stevie McSteveface)
As your MP for North Devon
Am I A Joke Candidate?
I run a pub, so I have fun and make jokes. That’s my job. Customers like jokes. But I am serious about standing for parliament because someone needs to represent the people who come in my pub from all over North Devon and tell me – they have had enough, and they are fed up with politicians and political parties.I am serious about offering you the chance to elect an MP from the real world, who will represent you and not just follow party orders like a robot. Also. I will carry on joking.
Fed up with politics and parties?
For the last ten years I have been the landlord of a pub at Yarde Down on Exmoor. I love it. We are the Greenest pub in Britain: totally off-grid, no mains water, electric or gas, but the best thing about it is my customers who come from all walks of life; farming, building, public services, business, you name it. It is a community pub, and when they come through the door they sit together and socialise. They discuss everything, and I can honestly say I have never, ever, ever known a time when they are all so completely fed up with politics, politicians and political parties.
Ditch Party Politics
Most of my customers say: “All the parties are as bad as each other”. .. “Politicians spend too much time slagging each other off” .. “They never listen to people from the real world”.. “Even we make more sense than the rubbish that comes out of Westminster” etc etc.
I agree.
So, I am giving you the chance to ditch party politics and professional politicians by standing in North Devon as an independent.

Representative Democracy
MPs ignore what you say and follow party orders on practically every subject.
Instead of that I will be your Representative.
I won’t ignore you. I promise to represent the views of the voters of North Devon – even if I don’t agree with them. Think about it.
Why does that sound so weird?
Isn’t that what democratic representatives are supposed to do? But I bet I am the only candidate offering you the chance to do this.

Send Me Your Policy Ideas
As your MP I will take my instructions from you. I will collect your opinions and ask you for guidance.
Send your ideas to me and I will make sure the most popular ones are heard in the election and after that, in Westminster:

A Local, Normal Person in Westminster
Eighty-five percent of MPs went to university. Most have never had a real job. They don’t know what it’s like to live on an average wage. Surely, it is time for a normal person from North Devon to go to parliament and tell them about never owning your own home or getting a decent pension, and worrying about whether you can afford a family holiday or leave their central heating on overnight.
(Actually, I haven’t got central heating and I think my life is pretty good, but I worry that MPs don’t have a clue – and that will never change unless you elect a normal person like me).

Is voting for me a wasted vote?
Of course it isn’t. If you are fed up with politicians, voting for a party candidate is a wasted vote. The parties don’t care about North Devon.
As an independent, I can vote exactly the way you tell me to – with the government to win things in return for the support of the Devon North constituency. Or, with the opposition, if Devon North constituents disagree with government policy. A party-political MP has no such choice. Think about it. How is that wasting your vote?

Stevie McSteveface?
Remember Beaty McBoatface?, when the great British public poked fun at a stuck-up system that never takes them seriously and still doesn’t. By voting Stevie McSteveface (Steve Cotten the mad pub landlord from Exmoor), you will not only get an MP who listens to you, you will be protesting and laughing, at
the political system that insults us time after time with its endless failures, bad behaviour, and broken promises. That’s a much better idea than not voting at all.
Let’s face it, they deserve to get someone like me at Westminster.
